This stitch consists of small interlocking vertical cross stitches.
Method
First make a vertical stitch across two canvas threads, then cross it with a horizontal stitch across two canvas threads
Make sure the top stitch is always horizontal.
Work the crosses in rows. The second row should fit into the spaces of the first.

This is a small cross stitch worked upright. The horizontal stitch should always lay uppermost.
