Twisted Lattice Band
- twisted lattice band stitch
This stitch uses a basis of double herringbone stitch (variation) around which two rows of lacing are worked. It has similarities with laced herringbone stitch.
This stitch certainly dates from the early 20th century as it features in Mary Thomas’ 1934 Dictionary of embroidery stitches.
Method
Work a line of double herringbone stitch (variation) and bring your needle up on the left hand end.
Slide your needle under the first upper slanting part of the herringbone, from bottom to top and pull through.
Slide your needle under the next part of the herringbone below the cross, from top to bottom and pull through.
Continue in this way along the upper part of the herringbone.
When you reach the end of the row, take your thread through the fabric and then back up just below.
Slide your needle under the first part of the herringbone from top to bottom and continue as before, to create a mirror image of the lacing.
A finished area of twisted lattice band.
