Double faggot filling stitch
This stitch is a heavier version of single faggot stitch: each stitch is worked a second time over the original one which gives a heavier line and pulls the fabric slightly tighter.
Method
Working from the right hand side of the shape to be filled, work a vertical stitch up over two fabric threads.
Repeat the stitch over the same two threads then count left and down under two intersections, bring the needle to the surface and pull.
Work two horizontal stitches over two fabric threads (into the original hole), one over the other.
Count left and down under two intersections, bring the needle to the surface and pull.
Repeat the last three steps until you reach the other side of the shape to be filled.
Working from the left hand side, count left and up under two intersections, bring the needle to the surface and pull.
Work two vertical stitches down over two fabric threads, one over the other. Count right and up under two intersections and bring the needle to the surface and pull. You will share holes with the previous row of stitching.
Work two horizontal stitches over two fabric threads, one over the other.
Count right and up under two intersections and bring the needle to the surface and pull.
Continue in this way until you reach the top of the space.
Continue to fill the space with more diagonal bands of double faggot stitch, spacing the bands six fabric threads apart.
