Secure two threads at the start of your design line. The first is your couching thread and the second your stringing thread. Take the couching thread through to the back.

Pick up some beads on your stringing thread. If your design line is long, you can add some more beads later.

Push the beads down to the beginning and hold them in place with your thumb. Bring your needle with the couching thread up on the far side of the stringing thread, two or three beads from the start.

Take the needle down on the near side of the stringing thread to couch the thread. Pull the thread through, so that the couching thread will slide between the beads and disappear.

Ensure the stringing thread is sitting on the design line, then couch it again two or three beads further along. If the design line is curved, you may need to couch more frequently, particularly on tight curves and turns. Continue couching until you run out of beads, then pick up some more on the stringing thread and continue couching.

Continue to the end of the design line and take the stringing thread through to the reverse. Secure both the couching thread and the stringing thread.
