Drawn thread preparation

1

Using a sewing thread, tack around the area from which you want to remove threads.

2

In the middle of the area, pick up just one thread of the fabric using a tapestry needle. Slide the scissors under the same thread next to the needle, and snip the thread.

3

Use the needle to tease the cut thread free of the fabric.

4

Continue this to the end of the area.

5

Then do the same in the opposite direction.

6

Pick up another thread of the fabric with a tapestry needle and snip it.

7

Repeat the procedures.

8

Continue until you have removed all the threads required.

9

Now remove the sewing thread tacking.

10

Thread the needle with the first unpicked thread and weave it back into the fabric.

11

Continue doing this until all threads at both ends have been secured.

12

When you finish weaving all the unpicked thread into the fabric, you can start trimming away the excess thread.

13

A complete drawn thread preparation. This sample shows ten drawn threads.
